Alex Tabarrok: How Ideas Trump Economic Crises

Description:

In this fascinating talk at the Technology, Entertainment, Design conference in February 2009, Alex Tabarrok, Professor of Economics at George Mason University, highlights the disastrous consequences of the increasing barriers to trade and commerce in the 1930s.  Professor Tabarrok goes on to point out that many of the policies chosen in the second half of the 20th Century -- especially the unparalled reductions in the barriers to trade -- led to tremendous growth and prosperity.  The lesson from his presentation is straight-forward: reducing the barriers to trade is the way out of the current crisis, and the key to increasing and expanding prosperity in the 21st Century.
